Mission, Vision & Values

Legacy Foundation, Registered Charity No. 978, is the philanthropic arm of the Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union Limited and its associated companies Capita Financial and Capita Insurance Brokers.

The idea of setting up a foundation to facilitate charitable giving by members was first presented at the Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union annual general meeting in 2009 and in December 2012 Legacy Foundation was formally incorporated as a non-profit organization. Each year since, members have set aside funds by way of appropriations for the sole purpose of charitable grant funding.

At Legacy Foundation we seek to inspire people and mobilize resources to strengthen the communities where our group of companies operate, we want to make a massive positive impact that will leave a lasting impression. Whether it’s a small charitable grant to a local school or a large charitable grant to a public entity, we engage in opportunities that align with our community impact objectives which are Learning, Wellness and Empowerment.

The core ideals which guide our decisions and actions are as follows:

Leadership: We listen to learn from our community. We address the root causes of community problems and mobilize resources for the common good.

Equity: We strive for equity and we focus primarily, but not exclusively, on people who are the most vulnerable in our community.

Accountability: We serve as stewards for our investments and honour the charitable intentions of our donors to meet current and future community needs. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, service and fiduciary responsibility.
