New Growth Aquaponics Project

Grantley Adams Memorial Secondary School – March 2024

New Growth Aquaponics & Farming Project

Project Goals:

The aim of this project is to ignite the development of a new and improved school farm program whilst
integrating new technology into the curricula. It is hoped that with new injection of funds and technical
knowledge of the proposed project, a synthesis of interest will be created to fuel teachers and students alike
into carving new creative ways of science education and entrepreneurship.

The project would create a greenhouse to accommodate a fully functioning aquaponics system which will be
used as a living laboratory that will in turn foster technical, organizational, entrepreneurial, analytical and much
needed social skills.

Forging partnerships between departments and stake holders within the school environment is a crucial
component of this project. It will also play a pivotal role in the connection between the school and the
community (A viable partnership with the Lions Club of Barbados North). When completed the science
department and by extension the school will have a valuable stream of revenue and be well equipped to deliver
vibrant new content to its students and all parties involved can enjoy much deserved positive publicity.

Wherever possible students would be included in the planning and implementation phase of the
project in order to garner valuable technical and management skills that will be required at the
proposed feed in institutions. Such that students will form the majority of the labour force needed to
facilitate this project. This act in turn gives students much needed exposure to practical skills within the
industry and also fulfills the “in-kind” mandate of the granting agencies.
